Marreese Speights’ Assist Sends Game 3 to Overtime
Marreese Speights of the Golden State Warriors made one of the biggest plays in the team’s come from behind win over the New Orleans Pelicans in game 3 of the playoff series. After being down by 20 points at the start of the fourth quarter, Speights and his teammates refused to give up.
The Warriors were in the process of making a remarkable comeback and with 9.6 seconds left in the fourth quarter, they had the ball and were only down by 3. Warriors coach Steve Kerr drew up the inbound play for Stephen Curry, who got a 3 pointer off cleanly but it rimmed out. The miss appeared to end the team’s chances of completing the comeback, but Marreese Speights hustled for the rebound, got it, and dished it back out to Curry on the 3 point line. Curry then finished the assist and hit the game tying 3 that ultimately forced overtime. The Warriors had been dominating the offensive glass the entire fourth quarter but none were as big as Marreese Speights’ offensive rebound in the closing seconds. The Warriors went on to defeat the Pelicans 123-119 and now have a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.
