Kyle Lowry taking on a mentor role with Raptors
Just a few games into the 2017-2018 season, Toronto is still getting a feel for one another on the court. It is clear that everyone worked hard during the off season but getting them to gel and develop chemistry on the court is the next step in the process. Lowry, who is now taking the initiative on the court as the main facilitator, will be a key component in this process. A glimpse of how he’s driving the team was shown during the 101-92 win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Lowry recorded his first triple double of the season, 11 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds to in the victory and is determined to lead his team in different ways than he has in the past.
Lowry is not only focused on his stats but also his new-found leadership role. He credits the win with how well everyone played. They have contributors all over the floor and he understands how big of a role the young guys will be for them down the line. He encourages them to come out and play hard every night with the confidence he is giving them. He aims to push them all as hard as possible because he has faith in them and knows what they can bring to the table. Lowry believes that he has a talented group to work with this season as the Raptors aim to return to the top stage in the east and go beyond.
