Jarell Martin Proving He’s the Real Deal

After getting drafted in the first round in 2015, Jarell did not have an easy start as he endured injuries and was continuously trying to get himself back to those dominant days at LSU that got him to the NBA. It was not easy, but Jarell persevered and got himself healthy again and worked with the Grizzlies staff to get conditioned and prepared for the NBA game and the Memphis grit and grid style of play.

This past summer, Jarell put in extensive time in the gym and worked on various skills to add to his game and be ready. With the Grizzlies lineup changed due to the departures of Zach Randolph and Tony Allen, Jarell had an opportunity to make a statement and show the team that he was prepared for the moment. Even though he was overshadowed with new additions to the team, Jarell demonstrated his drive and skills at training camp and in preseason with his strong defensive ability and key highlight plays. With the season just getting started, Jarell has moved from becoming a fringe rotation player for the Grizzlies to a consistent starter for the team that is currently leading the Western Conference with a 5-1 record. The power forward also has career highs in minutes, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals, and points. Jarell continues to prove people wrong and if the Grizzlies keep playing like this, his play will only increase in value.
